The National Library of Uganda wishes to congratulate two of their staff "Ms. Barbra Apolot & Mr. Adonia Katungisa: for being selected into the African Library & Information Association (AfLIA) Leadership Academy 2018/19. Out of hundreds of applications, Uganda managed to scoop two slots. The Academy is due to start in January 2017 and shall run for nine months with a two weeks visit to American Libraries.

Brief Background of the Academy

AfLIA is collaborating with the Public Library Association of the USA (PLA) to establish the AfLIA Leadership Academy. In April 2017, there was a call for applications from middle library managers of National /Public Libraries throughout Africa. The aim of the academy is to;

•“Build the knowledge, skills and confidence of library leaders to act in innovative and creative ways in meeting community needs

•Support library leaders to foster partnerships between libraries and government agencies, the private sector, NGOs, civil society, and faith-based organizations to work together to improve the lives of community members; and

•Strengthen library leaders’ skills and assisting them to renew approaches to library services, tangibly improving the value libraries bring to communities.” (AfLIA, 2017)

We therefore, look forward for a positive change in our Libraries and do encourage others to look out for call for applications for the 2nd Cohort in 2018.
