Management has provided some computers to enable users access electronic information. Any member holding a valid library pass is free to use them on first-come- first-serve basis. Members are expected to use these computers responsibly and with due regard for other library users. Computer users should, therefore, observe the following regulations:

1. DURATION OF USE:

Use of computers is limited to a maximum of one hour a day for an individual. If there are no other users wishing to use the service, this period can be extended.

2. COMPUTER GAMES:

Computer users are not expected to play computer games on the library computers.

3. JUNK OR CHAIN ELECTRONIC EMAIL:

Users must not use electronic mail facilities for the mass distribution of unauthorized, unsolicited messages.

4. LICENCE AGREEMENTS:

Users must comply with the license agreements of all software and datasets, and use the software and datasets only for the purpose defined by these agreements. Users must not load on to the library’s computing facilities any software or datasets contrary to licence agreements or any software that interferes with the normal working of the equipment.

5. FAULTS:

Users must not attempt to fix faulty computers or printers. Please report equipment faults to the staff.

6. CONTROL OF VIRUSES:

Users must not deliberately introduce a virus nor take any action to circumvent or reduce the effectiveness of any anti-virus precaution established by the computing service.

7. CONSIDERATION FOR OTHER USERS:

Users must not interfere with other members’ use of the computing facilities in any way; and should not delete or amend the data of any other user without their permission.

8. RESERVATIONS:

Users may not reserve any public PC for themselves or others. They must make sure that they log out after using the computer.

9. COMPUTERS LOGGED IN AND LEFT UNATTENDED:

At busy times, staff will log off computers unattended for more than five minutes.

10. Accessing, displaying, creating, producing or circulating any material that falls in the following categories is prohibited:

Material that is liable to cause offence, including pornographic material or anything that is indecent. (Note: Management reserves the right to determine what is pornographic or indecent)
Material that could be considered defamatory
Material that breaches copyright regulations
Material that could be considered to constitute sexual or racial harassment
Material that discriminates on grounds of race, tribe, gender, disability, marital status, political or religious belief 

11. FOOD AND DRINKS:

Eating and drinking is not allowed in the library.

12. SMOKING:

Is not allowed in the library.

13. REMOVABLES FROM OUTSIDE:

They are not allowed for use in the library computers. Library staff will avail flash disks/CDs to users who need them. Once any diskette is taken outside the library it will not be accepted back for use in the library’s computers.

14. AFRICAN JOURNALS ONLINE (AJOL):

Users can access scholarly journals currently being published in Africa on line, courtesy of the Program for Enhancement of Research Information (PERI) of the International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP). For titles, abstracts and links to full texts, please visit the site: www.ajol.info.

15. CONNECTING TO THE LIBRARY'S NETWORK:

The library has provided access points where users can plug in their own computers; however, members must seek authorization before effecting any connection. They should note that any connection of equipment to the network must be done in accordance with the NLU network security policy.

16. PRINTING OUT:

This will be done for those who need it, at a cost of 200/- per page. Please contact staff on duty (Note: We do not carry out any color printing).

17. NLU will routinely monitor individual user’s use of the computing facilities: 

To establish compliance with legal provisions and NLU regulations
To investigate or detect unauthorized use of the facilities
To secure effective system operation or as an inherent part of the system operation
To prevent or detect crime
In the interest of national security
