The National Library of Uganda is currently located on Buganda Road in Kampala on premises that were not originally meant to house a library. As a result, space is very limited, and the atmosphere is not conducive to study and carry out research and perhaps more importantly the physical environment inside where the collection is, is not suitable for a national collection.
The NLU requires a purpose-built facility to house the important national collection as well as provide study and research facilities for the general public. Funding is being sought for this purpose. An architectural brief has already been drawn up and land has been allocated for this purpose.
