Preservation involves maintaining and restoring access to information materials depite their formats- preventing them from decay and damage.
In order to allow knowledge acquired by one generation to be passed to the following generation, the National Library of Uganda preserves its information materials acquired as legal deposits by keeping them in a special enclosure which is not accessed by everyone.
Newspapers and Acts passed by Parliament are bound and later kept in sound environments with good temperature, humidity, air quality and light levels under control which assist in extending the life of the collection by slowing down its rate of deterioration.
Attempts at digitization through scanning of rare and old documents have been made, and at a later stage, they will be made available to the public through the internet.
