Cooperation with other Institutions
Several Development Partners have been constantly supporting the National Library of Uganda throughout the years. They include:
Partners within the book sector
- Community Libraries
- National Book Trust of Uganda (NABOTU)
- Uganda Publishers Association (UPA)
- Uganda Library and Information Association (ULIA)
- Uganda Booksellers Association
Swedish International Development Association (Sida): They have been funding many activities e.g. the bookweek festival, community reading tents, school libraries development project from the East African Book Development Association through National Book Trust of Uganda.
Book Aid International (BAI): They have been our partners for a long time. They are a UK charity. They have for a long time been responsible for stocking public and community libraries in Uganda. Their aid is in form of books and grants. They have implemented with us various projects e.g. the local book purchase, itra-Africa book support scheme, school libraries development project, and Book Trade project.
East African Book Development Association (EABDA): They have been our school of funding for various activities e.g. the bookweek festival through the National Book Trust of Uganda.
United Nations Economic Scientific Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) : UNESCO has also been our partner for many years. The National library implemented the Nakaseke Multipurpose Community Centre and Library project with UNESCO and other partners. It has been fundind other activities with us e.g. celebrating world book and copyright day every year. It has been spearheading the establishment and development of libraries in schools for a long time. Most importantly, it funded the achitectural brief consultative workshops for the National Library building.
Children International: They are a US Charity, donating books to developing countries. They have signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Library of Uganda, to act as their agents. So far, they have sent 3 containers of over 70, 000books and these have been distributed to deserving beneficiaries.
Library of Congress: They were our partners when implementing the World Digital Library Project in January 2010. They co-funded the project with UNESCO.
Anywhere Books: These were our partners when we were implementing the Digital Book Mobile project.
