The National Library of Uganda (NLU) is required, as the National Bibliographic Control Agency; to periodically publish a national bibliography, which is a listing of all publications issued in the country and deposited at the three legal deposit centres namely the National Library of Uganda; Makerere University Library and the National Documentation Centre at the Uganda Management Institute. The first volume of the National Bibliography of Uganda was published in 2004 and it listed publications received by NLU in 2003 and 2004 as well those received and listed by Makerere University Library since 1987. It is available on sale at USHS 46, 700/= (US $29).
The National Bibliography of Uganda, volume 2 was published in 2006. It listed publications that were recieved as Legal Deposits by the National Library of Uganda, between November 2004 and December 2005. It has 708 title entries. It is also available for sale from the National Library of Uganda.
Volume 3 was published in 2008 and it listed all publications that were recieved by the National Library of Uganda as legal deposit between December 2006 and December 2007. It is also available for sale from the National Library of Uganda.
The bibliography seeks to promote Uganda’s book trade both locally and internationally by publicizing Uganda’s documented heritage and will assist future generations to acquaint themselves with and learn about the progress of Uganda’s Intellectual and cultural output.
